Doctor Maxime Reza BAREI

Dr. Barei has a rich medical background, having progressed from his position as intern chef de clinique in Paris hospitals. His career path led him to successfully complete his internship at Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris. He then spent 4 years as assistant clinical director at Assistance Publique. His expertise was particularly developed in the Digestive and Bariatric Surgery Department at Hôpital Bichat, a pioneer in France in the field of bariatric surgery. This experience was marked by his pioneering role in the introduction of bariatric procedures

In the course of his clinical training, he became familiar with bariatric surgery, with procedures such as modular band gastroplasty, gastro-jejunal bypass and, finally, sleeve gastrectomy.

Since 1998, Dr. Barei has performed more than 3,900 bariatric procedures, with the main focus now on sleeve gastrectomy, but also on bypass and weight-reduction procedures after various bariatric surgeries.

Dr. Barei has positioned himself as a forerunner in the field of surgery in France, introducing an innovative, non-invasive approach for his patients. Since 2017, Dr. Barei has been at the forefront of the use of ALLURION intragastric balloons, marking a turning point in the treatment of obesity. This breakthrough was made possible by close collaboration with the ALLURION laboratory. This initiative has made it possible to develop a structured approach to obesity management, in partnership with a team dedicated to nutrition and dietetics, headed by Mrs Stéphanie Hubsch, and supported by her collaborators, Mrs Coignard and Mrs Alves.

At the same time, he works in collaboration with Dr Geneviève GONDON and Dr Pascale MASSE, nutritionists specializing in bariatric surgery.

To date, he has placed more than 500 gastric balloons, with a satisfactory medium-term result: 70% of patients have retained a benefit for more than two years after placement of the intragastric balloon.

The approach adopted for the management of incipient obesity is characterized by its multidisciplinary nature, similar to the approach adopted for bariatric surgery. This methodology encompasses nutritional consultations, while offering the possibility of psychological and metabolic assistance, where necessary.

Initial contact is made with the nutrition team, who inform patients about the procedure, its benefits and risks, and the need for short-, medium- and long-term nutritional follow-up.
